The Position Purple International Leadership Program

Leadership of the New Kind

Recognizing that there is a glaring need for a new approach to leadership, Position Purple now offers a long term program called ‘Leadership of The New Kind’.

Q: Why does the world need leadership of a new kind?

A: The short answer is: The world is changing, but leadership did not.

And here’s a bit of a longer answer: For millennia, people in leadership positions were mostly concerned with management and control of people, or with influencing them; the main function of a leader was to unite people towards achieving a goal.   If while doing it, someone also benefited, or even developed, it was a nice bonus for that individual.

Current time calls for more focus on development of people. ‘Leadership of the new kind’ asserts that leaders should be concerned with people’s development in whatever task they engage in;  that it should be part of a leader’s objectives whether they lead in the field of education, business or any other field.  There are deep reasons for why it should be the case, and some of them are detailed below.

On the global scale, the human race took a shift towards democracy and greater freedoms in the last two centuries.  Women suffrage was granted around one hundred years ago in the U.S., but a quick survey of world leaders and governance in general, will reveal that most are men, and most are exercising same control methods as their predecessors.  This happens at a time that the world is facing the most serious challenges ever to do with issues that impact the whole of humanity and the planet itself.

In the business world, in spite of some interesting attempts at motivating people differently, the same reality can be found – most of the attention goes to how to manage, and much less to development of people (although some companies do fairly well when it comes to professional development).

But even in environments where development should be the focus – such as in schooling and parenting – in most cases, it’s only the old approach that is applied which is concerned with control and management – much less with development of potential.  This is the reality even though most everyone realizes the need for students to become free thinkers, creative people. To clarify – teaching does not necessarily mean development. In almost all schools, most hours are dedicated to teaching ‘stuff’. Much less, if at all, is dedicated to developing human qualities like reasoning abilities, stamina and balance, feelings of well-being, mental agility, ability to think for oneself outside of the conventions of the subject matter – and this list can go on much longer.

The reality is that if the perception about the objective of leadership does not change; if the matching behavioral science of ‘Leadership of the New Kind’ would not be developed, then it is unlikely to foresee any meaningful change in any of the areas listed above.

For millennia the working paradigm that guided people in leadership positions was to do with CONTROL, MANAGEMENT and INFLUENCE.

The new paradigm is built on the premise of DEVELOPMENT

and an invitation to a higher level of consciousness

Becoming leaders of the new kind takes developing a new approach to leadership; it takes creating the inner alignments and it takes learning the behavioral science that goes with becoming the new leaders of today.

The Position Purple Leadership Program is open to people from different countries who want to engage with others and apply the principles of the new approach in their own chosen field – whether it is in the corporate world, in schooling, in government, in parenthood, or in leading any group of people.
